How Much Money Can I Expect?

Amounts may vary annually. For the award year 2022–2023, the maximum Federal Pell Grant award is $6,895. (July 1, 2022, to June 30, 2023).

The amount you get, though, will depend on

The attendance fee (determined by your school for your specific program)
Expected contribution from your family.
Your enrollment status (full-time or part-time) and your intention to go to school for the entire academic year or less.

A qualified student may get up to 150 percent of the Pell Grant award that is expected to be given to them for a given award year under certain circumstances.

For instance, if you are enrolled full-time for both the fall and spring terms and are qualified for a $2,000 Pell Grant for the award year, you will probably get $1,000 in the autumn and $1,000 in the spring.

However, under some conditions, you could be qualified to receive an extra $1,000 for enrolling in an extra term during that award year (resulting in your receiving 150 percent of your original award).

What Must I Do to Keep the Grant?

In order to be eligible for a Federal Pell Grant, you must continue to be enrolled in an undergraduate program at a non-foreign institution.

In order to continue being eligible for federal student aid, you must submit the FAFSA form each year that you are enrolled in classes.

You are no longer qualified to receive a Federal Pell Grant if you have obtained a bachelor’s degree, your first professional degree, or you have used up all 12 terms of your eligibility.
