Every year, hundreds of students are awarded the Hungarian Scholarship for South Africans and this has opened the academic channels for Scholars to thrive.
The qualifications offered are all at degree level. There are Bachelors, Masters and PhD spaces available in various academic fields including natural sciences, engineering, IT, business management, agriculture, human resources and food sciences among others. 100 Hungarian Government Scholarships for South African Students.

Who can Apply for The Scholarship?
1. South African citizens in good health
2. Have a strong academic record:
➢ Bachelor’s applicants require a minimum average of 70% in their NSC (excluding LO);
➢ Postgraduate applications should have performed well in their previous studies with a minimum 65% average mark achieved in their previous studies.
3. Available and eligible to study in Hungary from September 2022;
4. Meet the entry criteria for their selected programme in Hungary;
5. Meet the minimum academic requirements for entry into a similar programme at a South African university;
6. An interest in studying in Hungary and demonstrated commitment to the development of South Africa.

Fields of Study

Bachelor’s and Master’s applicants must apply for a course on this list to be considered for the scholarship.
Doctoral applicants can apply for any field of study. The available study programmes and institutions are available in the online application system.
Doctoral applicants must have a letter from their proposed Hungarian supervisor and submit this with their application.
What the Scholarship Offers
The Hungarian Government offers:
1. Tuition fees;
2. Monthly stipend;
3. University accommodation or a contribution towards private accommodation;
4. Medical insurance;
5. All Bachelor’s and Master’s students will be required to do a course called Hungarian as a foreign language.
Please Note: Scholarship recipients may be required to cover their own international travel and any additional cost not listed above.
Application Process
Applicants are required to complete the online application on the Stipendium Hungaricum website by the deadline indicated and fulfil all requirements as stipulated

Only applications submitted on the Stipendium Hungaricum website by 15 January 2022 will be assessed by the South African Department of Higher Education and Training for nominations.
PhD applicants are required to visit the Hungarian Doctoral Council website before submitting their application.
The website provides information about the Hungarian doctoral schools, available research field and research topics as well as the supervisors of the doctoral students.
