Top Difference Between Fullmetal Alchemist and Brotherhood

Both series were derived from one of the greatest manga anime series of all time with a reasonable amount of unique twists and turns.

The original Fullmetal Alchemist anime was created when the original manga was in its early development stages, while the Brotherhood follows the original events of the manga so its storyline coincides with the manga’s storyline.

About Fullmetal Alchemist

Fullmetal Alchemist is a famous anime that came out in 2003. It has been recommended on many occasions over the past decade. The franchise combines science fiction, action, drama, comedy, mystery, and a good load of romance.

It was produced while the manga was still being released and as such, the anime episodes eventually caught up to the manga and there was no more source material to write new ones.

Every single character in the original 50-episode Fullmetal Alchemist anime series is interesting, considering each one has a backstory that is carefully presented.

Each character is unique and lovable, which makes the anime more interesting to watch.

So the anime took a turn, around the part where Ed and Al are training on the island, where they started coming up with anime-original plotlines and characters.

This includes homunculi that weren’t introduced yet, the origin and who created them, some stuff involving Scar and Ishbal, etc.

This anime-only universe was continued into the 2005 movie The Conqueror of Shamballa. The production studio, Bones, did its best to flesh out the story’s ending while the manga still didn’t have an ending (and wouldn’t until 2010).

About Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood

In 2009 Brotherhood is released as a companion to the manga, which finishes in 2010. Moreover, it is able to completely tell the storyline as written by the mangaka from beginning to end, faithful to the source.

The original manga ending was a great conclusion, fleshed out, and tied everything together very well. It went over great.

Homunculus is the central antagonist in Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood. Father is also power-hungry who wants immortality over everything else, just like Dante but unlike Dante, he craves knowledge.

Viewers who did not watch the 2003 version before the FMA Brotherhood had come out now tend to compare the two, without being aware of the context I described above.

They frequently opine and make suggestions not to watch the 2003 version, because it sucks and that Brotherhood was done so much better, without taking into account the constraints the first version was under halfway through production.

Difference Between Fullmetal Alchemist and Brotherhood

1. Fullmetal Alchemist is a 50-episode anime series with little connection with the manga.

2. The Brotherhood centers the story on the manga and follows the original events of the manga.

3. The main antagonist of the original FMA is a woman called Dante while in Brotherhood, it’s Father –Homunculus.

4. In FMA, Lust wears a black dress. Meanwhile, in Brotherhood, Lust wears a reddish-Brown dress.

5. In FMA, the gate serves as a portal between the FMA world and Earth. In Brotherhood, the gate is the only source of alchemy not a portal between worlds.

6. The original FMA is much less visually appealing than the Brotherhood series.
