2. Aga Khan Foundation International Scholarships

Deadline: March 31st

The Aga Khan Foundation awards Ph.D. scholarships to international students from Bangladesh, India, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan, Syria, Egypt, Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, Madagascar, and Mozambique who are enrolled in a post-graduate program in the United States or Canada each spring.

Middle Eastern or African applicants must be 30 years old or younger, demonstrate genuine financial need, be accepted into a reputable program of study, and have a track record of academic excellence.

3. American-Scandinavian Foundation Fellowships

Deadline: February 15th

The American-Scandinavian Foundation (ASF) offers one-year fellowships of up to $23,000 to Scandinavian citizens pursuing a master’s or doctoral degree in any subject in the United States.

Candidates must be legally resident in one of the following countries: Denmark, Finland, Norway, Sweden, or Iceland, and have a basic command of the English language.

Three letters of recommendation, undergraduate transcripts, a CV or résumé, and a biographical essay are required for consideration.

4. Asian Cultural Council Fellowship Program

Deadline: November 1st

The Asian Cultural Council (ACC) Fellowship Program, worth $5,000, aids graduate students from Bangladesh, Bhutan, Cambodia, China, India, Indonesia, Japan, Korea, Laos, Malaysia, Mongolia, Myanmar, Nepal, the Philippines, and Singapore.

Taiwanese, Thai, and Vietnamese students who aspire to study in the United States are also eligible.

5. Campbell Fellowships for Transformative Research

Deadline: November 7th

The School of Advanced Research (SAR offered the Campbell Fellowships for Transformative Research, which provide a salary of $4,500 per month) to foreign female Ph.D. academics who are examining the conditions of women in poor countries.

Most candidates are working on their doctorates in anthropology, geography, political science, psychology, sociology, law, history, or economics.

Female scholars from any country who are enrolled in a graduate institution in the United States and are fluent in English are eligible to apply.

6. East-West Center Graduate Degree Fellowship

Deadline: November 1st

The East-West Center established the Graduate Degree Fellowship to provide advanced students from Asia and the Pacific, including Russia, with 24 months of full tuition funding while pursuing a master’s or Ph.D. degree at the University of Hawaii.

Applicants must be enrolled full-time at UH, pass the TOEFL or IELTS exam, meet the J-1 visa criteria, and submit two letters of recommendation to be considered.

Fellows selected for the program must complete at least 90 hours of community service and submit monthly reports.

7. Franklin Mosher Baldwin Memorial Fellowship

Deadline: February 15th

The Franklin Mosher Baldwin Memorial Fellowship, sponsored by the Leakey Foundation, is aimed to provide $15,000 annually to international students from impoverished countries who are accepted into an accredited MA or Ph.D. school in the United States.

Young non-US citizens pursuing a degree in prehistory, paleoanthropology, primatology, or any field relevant to human origins and evolution may be eligible.

Fellows must aim to return to their native country and work thereafter completing their advanced specialty training.

8. Fulbright Foreign Student Program

Deadline: October 15th

The Fulbright Foreign Student Program, which is administered by the US Department of State, grants up to 1,800 PhD scholarships to international students who seek to study in the US each year.

Candidates must have a first- or upper-second-class honors bachelor’s degree, be admitted into an appropriate graduate institution, demonstrate academic merit, pass the GRE or GMAT exam, and submit a curriculum vitae to be considered.

After receiving financing, Fulbright scholars must return to their home country for at least two years.

International Student Research Fellowships are available for $43,000 through the Howard Hughes Medical Institute (HHMI) to non-US predoctoral students studying at an accredited American university.
